Stained Glass Window Restoration Project
Our newest capital improvement project is the complete restoration of our historic
stained glass windows. Installed around 1907 when our current sanctuary was completed, these beautiful windows are a prominent architectural feature of our church, and they enhance our weekly worship experience.
Over time, stained glass windows deteriorate for a variety of reasons. Individual pieces of glass and lead move in response to temperature extremes, stress, and aging. When this occurs, sections shift, bow, and break. Supporting rods can fail due to age, which results in sagging and stress fractures. Original window designs may have been faulty, and repairs, if not properly done, can create problems. Our stained glass windows show evidence of all these.
The overall age of the various components of our windows makes it necessary to undertake their complete restoration rather than spot repairs. Dayton Art Glass has been approved as our contractor, and as funds are made available to us individual windows will be removed and restored to their original appearance. Repairs to surrounding interior and exterior woodwork will be done and new storm windows and frames will be installed.
We invite you to join in the preservation of these historic windows so that future generations can admire their craftsmanship and message. Individual windows or groups of windows may be sponsored or restored in a loved-one’s memory. General donations are also accepted towards the overall project.
